Hi There! It’s me, Chelsea with TinyHR!

I fell in love with hospitality early on in my career – and I fell hard. I was 18, freshly away from my family for the first time, working in the mountains and it all felt overwhelming. After the long hours, each night I would trek back to my staff room and bond with my housemates. We would cook together, talk about our days and crack open a bottle of wine (obviously a better bottle than we should have been able to afford… but priorities).

My entire world started to expand. I met people from all over the world, I tried flavours I had never tasted before and it all suddenly started to feel like home. As I carried on in my career, the love of food and wine continued to grow obviously, but it was really the people that stole my heart.  I had made a family out of the people I worked with. Over time I suddenly found myself spending more and more time in the HR offices chatting with them, asking questions and wanting to know more about what they do. It struck me like a lightning bolt or that feeling when you are on your 4th glass of wine. I was a people person, and my people were no longer the guests, I wanted to always be with the staff.

This is when I realized my life’s calling was to be the conduit between the business, the bottom line, and the happiness of the people.  This is when everything changed.

I transferred into HR when I realized that I wanted to give the staff the same experience we give the guests. I was still passionate about guest service but I wanted to provide that for the amazing people that came to work with me everyday. I knew in my heart, that if we were able to give them the same level of experience we gave to the guest, we could achieve way more than we thought. As a Director of Human Resources, I often started saying that the staff were the “internal guest”. I knew the best way to take care of our bottom line and the profits we wanted, was to make sure the people responsible for our company were loving the sh*t out of their job.

Can’t you tell when you are eating or staying somewhere and all the people genuinely like working there?
It’s a magic you can feel. You can almost taste it.
I want every hospitality experience to be like that for people.
I want your staff to love the sh*t out of working for you.
I want you to feel like you can trust, rely and count on them to have your back.

That’s HR to me.  I’m not here to kill your joy, or harsh your vibe.  I’m here to help you build a team that floats your boat, take the hassle off your plate and let us work on increasing that bottom line. Maybe what you want is for us to drink wine together and talk about your HR practices? Because everything goes down better with wine doesn’t it? Let’s do it.
